PUB: Invalid Page Fault in Icm32.dll When Starting Publisher (155786)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Publisher you may receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, please contact the application vendor.
If you click Details, you see the following message:
Mspub.exe caused and invalid page fault in Icm32.dll at <address>
This problem can occur if you installed a printer driver for a Hewlett-Packard (HP) color DeskJet.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do the following:
  1. Click the Start Button, click Settings, then click Printers.
  2. Click the icon for your color DeskJet printer.
  3. Press the Delete key on your keyboard. Click Yes if you see this message:

    Some files were used only for this printer and are no longer needed. Would you like to delete these files now?

  4. Search for all the files in your C:\Windows\System folder that begin with the letters "hp". Delete these files.
  5. Start Publisher to verify that it works correctly now.
  6. Reinstall your HP DeskJet driver.
