SYMPTOMS

Dashed or dotted line paragraph borders which are formatted with any point width (3/4 pt line style in Word 6.x and 7.x) and formatted with a color other than Auto, print in black on color printers.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Drawing tools to create the dashed or dotted lines and borders, rather than the Borders and Shading command on the Format menu:
  1. On the Drawing toolbar, select the Line or Rectangle tool and draw the line or border in the document.
  2. With the drawing object selected, click Drawing Object on the Format menu.
  3. On the Line tab, select the desired Weight and Color of the Line or Rectangle, and click OK.
  4. With the drawing object selected, hold the SHIFT key down and position (drag) the drawing object with the mouse to the correct position.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Word 97.
