This article was previously published under Q155109

SYMPTOMS

Under certain circumstances, if you press the Alt+O keys while in the Print dialog box, you receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you will see the following message:
MSPUB caused an invalid page fault in module MSPUB.EXE at 0137:00439c30.
This problem occurs if, while in the Print dialog box, you change the printer from a printer that does support tabloid-sized paper to a printer that doesn't.

This problem occurs under the following circumstances:
  1. The page size of your publication is 8.5" x 11"
  2. You change the printer from one that supports Tabloid size paper to one that doesn't.
  3. You press Alt+O before you exit the Print dialog box.

CAUSE

Alt+O is the keyboard shortcut equivalent of the Book Printing Options button.

When your publication is set up for 8.5" x 11" paper and your printer supports Tabloid (11" x 17") paper, the Print dialog box has a Book Printing Options button in the lower left corner. If you choose a printer that does not support Tabloid paper, the button disappears. The error occurs when you try to activate the button that is no longer there.

This problem can occur at any time if you:
  1. Change the printer settings while in the Print dialog box so that the Book Printing Options, Tile Printing Options, or Page Options button disppears
  2. Press Alt+O

RESOLUTION

Don't press Alt+O while in the printer dialog box unless you can see a Book Printing Options, Tile Printing Options, or Page Options button.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
