PUB97: AutoSetup Stops Running After Successful Installation (155092)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 97

This article was previously published under Q155092

SUMMARY

When you insert the Publisher 97 CD-ROM into a computer that does not already have Publisher 97 installed on it, Publisher Setup automatically starts. If you cancel Setup before it's complete, and then re-insert the Publisher 97 CD-ROM, Setup starts again. However, once Publisher 97 is installed successfully, inserting the Publisher 97 CD-ROM no longer starts setup automatically.

MORE INFORMATION

When you insert the Publisher 97 CD-ROM, a program called Autorun.exe starts automatically. This program looks in the Windows Registry for the following Registry key:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Publisher\Version

If this key is not there, or if it does not contain the following value:

Autorun "040r0139"

then Autorun automatically starts Setup. If the key is there and contains the correct value, Autorun quits without starting Setup.

This key is created at the end of Publisher 97 Setup.
