PUB97: Rotated GIFs May Look Hazy (155089)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 97

This article was previously published under Q155089

SYMPTOMS

If you import a GIF image (or other bitmap-type graphic) and rotate it, it may appear with a hazing effect and/or with bands that appear to break up the image.

This effect disappears if you change the rotation angle slightly or if you change the zoom percentage.

This effect occurs only if you are running a display setting of 15-bit (32,768), 16-bit (65,536) or 24-bit (16.7 million) colors. If you are using a 256-color display setting, it does not occur.

RESOLUTION

This is a display problem only. Rotated graphics that display this system usually print correctly and export correctly as part of a Web page.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
