SYMPTOMS

When you type text in a text frame or table in Publisher, some fonts may appear as empty boxes instead of letters. If you have the Publisher 97 font preview turned on, these same fonts may appear as empty boxes in the fonts list as well.

These fonts are also displayed and printed incorrectly in WordPad.

CAUSE

The Windows 95 TrueType font cache may have been corrupted.

RESOLUTION

Starting Windows 95 in safe mode will delete the TrueType font cache. After you start in safe mode, restart Windows 95 again in normal mode.

To access more information regarding starting Windows 95 in safe mode:
  1. Click Start, and then click Help.
  2. Select the Index tab.
  3. Type safe mode in the field provided.
