XL97: File may not Open From the Favorites Menu (154902)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q154902 SYMPTOMS
If you click the Favorites drop-down menu on the Web toolbar, point to "My
Documents" and then click a file in the list of the "My Documents" folder,
the file may not open.
CAUSE
You may experience the above behavior if you currently have no open
documents in Microsoft Excel.
RESOLUTION
To be able to open a file from the "My Documents" file list, you must have
at least one open document. This open document can be one that you saved
previously, or it can be a new workbook.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
The "My Documents" file list is a listing of all the files you currently
have stored in your <drive>\My Documents folder. It lists all files in this
folder, not just Microsoft Excel files. Therefore, if you click a Microsoft
Access file from this list, for example, this file is opened with Microsoft
Access and not Microsoft Excel.
Note: The Favorites drop-down is located, by default, on the Web toolbar.
To display the Web toolbar, click the "Web Toolbar" toolbar button located
on the Standard toolbar.
REFERENCES
For more information about the My Documents folder, click the Index tab in
Microsoft Excel Help, type the following text
and then double-click the selected text to go to the "The best place to
store workbooks" topic.
