SUMMARY

Microsoft Internet Mail and News version 1.0 includes a feature that allows you to view Internet mail and newsgroup messages that were created in different languages in any language version of Windows 95. To enable this feature in Internet Mail or Internet News so you can view Internet mail or newsgroup messages written in a particular language, you must install the corresponding character set and enable the language in Windows 95.

Internet Mail and Internet News allow you to view Internet mail and newsgroup messages created in languages that are supported by the following character sets:

  • Western European
  • Central European (ISO)
  • Central European (Windows)
  • Cyrillic (KOI8-R)
  • Cyrillic (Windows)
  • Baltic (ISO)
  • Baltic (Windows)
  • Greek (ISO)
  • Greek (Windows)
  • Turkish (ISO)
  • Turkish (Windows)
To configure Internet Mail or Internet News so you can view Internet mail or newsgroups messages written in a particular language, follow these steps:

  1. Install the corresponding character set in Windows 95. For example, if you want to view Internet mail or newsgroup messages written in Bulgarian, install the Cyrillic character set in Windows 95.

    NOTE: The Baltic and Turkish character sets are included with PanEuropean Windows 95 and certain Eastern European localized versions of Windows 95. In addition, a multiple language pack for Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.01 is also available that includes additional support for the Baltic and Turkish character sets in Internet Mail and News.

    To determine the requirements for each character set supported by Internet Mail and News and the languages supported by each character set, see the table in this article.

    To install Central European, Cyrillic, or Greek language support in Windows 95, use either of the following methods:

    Method 1
    --------

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Click the Windows Setup tab, click Multilanguage Support, and then click Details.
    3. Click the appropriate check box to select it, and then click OK.
    Method 2
    --------

    Download and install the Pan European--Internet Explorer 3.0 Multilanguage support for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 language pack.

    NOTE: This also adds Baltic and Turkish character sets.
  2. Enable the appropriate language in Windows 95. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Keyboard.
    2. Click the Language tab, and then click Add.
    3. Click the language, and then click OK.
  3. Enable the corresponding character set in Internet Mail or Internet News. To do so, point to Language on the View menu, and then click the character set that corresponds to the language.
