Canceling Send And Receive May Not Respond (154344)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Mail and News 1.0 for Windows 95

This article was previously published under Q154344

SYMPTOMS

After you click Send And Receive, you may be unable to cancel the dialog box using the Cancel button.

CAUSE

Messages cannot be canceled when Internet Mail is waiting for a response from the mail server. When the Send And Receive button is clicked, Internet Mail issues a request for information from the mail server. In some cases, the mail server response is slow. Internet Mail cannot allow canceling until the server either responds or times out.

RESOLUTION

The server may be slow if you have the Leave A Copy Of Messages On Server feature enabled. Although it may appear that nothing is happening, the server may be busy reading your mail drop. To speed up this process, you may want to delete mail from your server and store it locally on your computer. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the Mail menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Server tab, and then click Advanced Settings.
  3. Click the Leave A Copy Of Messages On Server check box to clear it.
  4. Click OK, and then click OK.
  5. Quit and restart Internet Mail.
