Cannot Open Executable File on LAN in IE 2.0 for Windows 3.1 (154098)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.01 for Windows 3.1
This article was previously published under Q154098 SYMPTOMS
In Internet Explorer, when you click a link to an executable program file
that is located on a local area network (LAN) or local computer, you may be
prompted whether you want to open or save a file named Tmp1.exe instead of
the actual name of the file. If you click Open, the file is not downloaded
or run. If you click the link again, the file name becomes Tmp2.exe. The
number in the file name increments until you restart Internet Explorer.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, click Save As rather than Open, and type the
correct file name for the file. After the file is saved to your hard disk,
run the file.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet
Explorer version 2.01 for Windows 3.1. We are researching this problem
