OFF95: Shared Apps Set to a UNC Path During Setup on Netware 4.02 (153735)

When you perform a workstation setup of Microsoft Office for Windows 95,
version 7.0 from a server that is running Novell Netware 4.02, the Setup
program may incorrectly map the location of shared applications to a
Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path instead of a network drive letter.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are met:
- You are using Windows 95.
-and-
- You are using Novell Netware version 4.02 with the Novell 16-bit client
to connect to the server.
-and-
- You perform an administrative (/a) setup of Microsoft Office for Windows
95, version 7.0 to the server.
-and-
- You select Drive Letter in the Connect to Server Using box in the
Network Server Confirmation dialog box during the administrative
installation.
-and-
- You then perform a workstation setup.
This problem does not occur if you use Novell Netware 4.1, or if you use
the 32-bit Microsoft Windows 95 Client for Netware Networks.
RESOLUTION
Remove the workstation and administrative installations, install the 32-bit
Microsoft Windows 95 Client for Netware Networks, perform an administrative
setup, and run workstation setup again.
To install the Microsoft Client for Netware Networks, follow these steps:
- Click Programs on the Start menu, and click Windows Explorer.
- Using the right mouse button (right-click), click Network Neighborhood
and click Properties.
- Click the Configuration tab, and click Add.
- Click Client and click Add.
- Under Manufacturers, click Microsoft.
- Under Network Clients, click Client for Netware Networks, and click OK.
NOTE: Some third-party programs may not work correctly with the Microsoft
Client for Netware Networks. To determine whether a program is compatible
with the Microsoft client, contact the vendor that manufactures the program
before you install the client.
STATUS
This problem occurs when you install Microsoft Office for Windows 95,
version 7.0, and you use Novell Netware version 4.02.
This problem does not occur when you install Microsoft Office for Windows
95, version 7.0, and you use Novell Netware version 4.1.
