TMGR: 'Clear It' Button Doesn't Clear Name or Initials (153419)

This article was previously published under Q153419 SUMMARY
In Team List view, if you place a nonblank Full Name, Short Name, or
Initials field in edit mode (that is, the cell contains a blinking
insertion point), and if at least one other field in the row is non-blank,
when you delete the contents of that cell and try to activate another cell
or row, you receive the following message:
<Field name> cannot be left blank.
If you click the Clear It button in the message, Team Manager restores the
original content of the cell and takes the cell out of edit mode, rather
than clearing the cell.
MORE INFORMATION
Full Name, Short Name, and Initials are required fields. If you try to
clear one of these fields, you may receive a warning message with just an
OK button, or a warning message with Try Again and Clear It buttons. In
some cases, the cell contents may simply be restored without a warning
message. Whether or not you receive a message depends on whether the record
is new or already exists, what keys or menu choices you use, and whether
the cell is in edit mode.
For example, if you select the Full Name field of an existing record, and
if it is not in edit mode, then pressing the DELETE key gives you a warning
message with only an OK button. If instead, you press the BACKSPACE key
followed by the ENTER key, then the cell content is simply restored without
any warning message. If you first place the cell in edit mode by selecting
it and pressing the F2 key or by entering text, then clearing the contents
with the BACKSPACE and ENTER keys gives you a warning message with Try
Again and Clear It buttons.
Microsoft Team Manager Team has both a field edit mode and a record edit
mode. A field is in edit mode if it contains a blinking insertion point.
You place a field in edit mode by selecting it and pressing the F2 key, or
by selecting it and typing text. The field leaves edit mode when you
activate another field or row, or when you press the ESC key. If a field is
in edit mode, pressing ESC reverts changes to that field only, and takes it
out of edit mode.
A record can be in Edit mode even if there is no blinking insertion point
in any cell in that row. For example, if you enter text in one field of a
record and then click another field in the same record, a ">" symbol
appears in the button at the left of a record, indicating that it is in
edit mode. A record remains in edit mode until you activate another row, or
until you press ESC. If a record is in edit mode when there is no blinking
insertion point, pressing ESC reverts all changes made to the record since
it entered edit mode.
WORKAROUND
If you mistakenly enter text in the Full Names, Short Names or Initials
fields in a blank row, and do not want to create the new record, press the
ESC key repeatedly until the cell contains no text and no blinking
insertion point.
