Opening a Folder Takes a Long Time (153114)

When you open a folder in Microsoft Explorer on a drive using the FAT32
file system, one or both of the following symptoms may occur:
- It may seem to take an unusually long time before the window is
accessible.
- The Working in Background pointer may appear for a long time.
CAUSE
The total space used by all directory entries in the folder exceeds 32K.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, move some files to a different folder.

in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Explorer parses the directory entries in the FAT completely
before displaying the files.
