SUMMARY

Each time you quit Microsoft Money, the program prompts you to save a backup copy of the Money file to a floppy disk.

It is recommended that you save two backup copies of the Money file on two disks each month.

MORE INFORMATION

To change the back-up settings, use the appropriate method for your version of Money.

Microsoft Money 2005 and later versions

Microsoft Money 2005 and later versions have changed the backup strategy slightly from previous versions of Money. The default backup scheme is to backup to your hard drive every time you close Money as well as backup to a floppy or removable drive every 14 days. In addition to these default settings, you will be prompted prior to each backup and the files will be compressed.

To prevent Money from creating a backup file each time you quit Money or to change any of your backup preferences, do the following:
  1. Start Microsoft Money.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Settings.
  3. Click Backup Settings.
  4. Make any required changes.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Note You can also click to select the Make my file small (compress it) on both manual and automatic backup check box to help save additional space on your hard disk.

Microsoft Money 99 through 2004

Money 99 and later versions provide new strategies for backing up your valuable Money data files. With Money, the default backup scheme is to back up to your hard disk each time you quit the program, and then to back up to a floppy (or removable media) every 14 days.

To prevent Money from creating a backup file each time you quit Money or to change any of your backup preferences, do the following:
  1. Start Microsoft Money.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Backup tab.
  4. Under Automatically back up file to hard disk on exit, click to select the Prompt me before backing up each time check box.
  5. Click to clear the Automatically back up file to hard disk on exit check box.
  6. Click OK to save the changes.
