This article was previously published under Q152712 SYMPTOMS
When you run Internet Explorer, it may stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
This problem can be caused by incompatible or damaged control panels,
extensions, or items in your Startup Items folder (such as anti-virus
software).
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, disable all control panels, extensions, and
items in your Startup Items folder and then check to see if the problem
persists. To disable all control panels, extensions, and items in your
Startup Items folder, click Restart on the Special menu in the Finder
(desktop), and then press and hold down the SHIFT key while your computer
starts until the Finder appears.
NOTE: This procedure disables network support. To perform a clean start
with networking, you must move only certain control panels and extensions
out of the appropriate folders and then restart your computer. For more
information about performing a clean start with networking, please contact
Apple.
If the problem no longer occurs after performing this procedure, restart
your computer normally and then disable individual control panels,
extensions, and items in your Startup Items folder. After disabling each
individual control panel, extension, or other item, restart the computer
and check to see if the problem still occurs. After you have identified
the specific item that is causing the problem, reinstall the item or
contact the manufacturer of the item for information about resolving this
problem.
MORE INFORMATION
Extensions Manager is a tool that you can use to enable or disable
specific control panels or extensions. Extensions Manager is available
