TMGR: Can't Change Group till Pointer Moves off Inserted Task (151969)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Team Manager

This article was previously published under Q151969

SUMMARY

In a Microsoft Team Manager view with an active grouping, when the pointer is moved off a newly inserted task, the value in the grouping field for the inserted task automatically changes to the value associated with the group into which it was inserted. This happens even if the grouping field value was manually changed before the pointer moved off the task.

MORE INFORMATION

Many task views, such as the Task Organizer view, allow tasks to be grouped by various categories. For example, to display the Task Organizer view grouped by priority, on the View menu, point to Grouping, and then click By Priority.

This displays the tasks in an outline structure with group headings in the Task Name column corresponding to each of the possible Priority values, such as "Priority: Highest," "Priority: Very High," and so on. To remove the grouping, on the View menu, point to Grouping, and then click No Grouping.

When a record is inserted or edited in a table, a ">" symbol is displayed instead of a row number, until another row becomes active, for example by clicking on another row or pressing ENTER. In a task table with an active grouping, any changes made to the grouping field value of a newly inserted task, before another row has become active, are ignored the first time another row becomes active. For example, if a new task is inserted into the Priority: Highest group in a task table, and if the Priority field is changed to Medium before another row becomes active, then the Priority automatically changes back to Highest the first time another row becomes active.

WORKAROUND

To control the grouping field value for a newly inserted task, either insert it in the desired grouping in the first place, or make another row active after inserting the new task, and then re-select the inserted task and change its grouping field value.
