WORKAROUND
Double-clicking a task object in a
Task Object form, will not bring the source application to the foreground if it is running in the background. Closing the source application, then double-clicking on the object will result in opening the source application.
There are three workarounds to this problem: you can right mouse click on
the object and use the shortcut menu to edit the obect, you can check to
see if the application is running, or you can embed the object in the
object layer of the Gantt chart view.
Method 1: Using the Secondary Mouse Button
Apply a secondary mouse-click to the object. From the
Shortcut Menu, click
Edit.
Method 2: Check to see if the application is running
Make sure that the application that you are linking to through the object,
is not currently running in the background, this way when you double-click
on it within the
Object detail of the
Task form, it will automatically open the other application.
You can check to see if the source application is open by using the
directions for your operating system:
Windows 95: Press
CTRL+ALT+DEL keys simultaneously to bring up the
Close Program dialog.
Windows NT: Press
CTRL+ALT+DEL keys simultaneously to bring up the Windows NT Security, then click the
Task List button.
Select the source application from the appropriate dialog and choose
End
Task.
Method 3: Embed object in drawing layer of the Gantt Chart view
- Copy the data from the external application.
- Return to Microsoft Project.
- From the View menu, click Gantt Chart.
- From the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
- Click Paste Link.
- Select type from the list. Do NOT select Text Data.
- Click OK.
The embedded object will appear in the Gantt chart. Note that, if Text Data
had been selected, the link would appear in the Entry Table and the problem
would continue.
