Microsoft Excel 97 and Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

  1. Enter the following in a spreadsheet:

    A1: Data
    A2: 100
    A3: 300
    A4: 650
    A5: 425
    A6: 175

  2. Select cells A1:A6. On the Insert menu, click Chart.
  3. In step 1 of the Chart Wizard, click the Standard Types tab. Under Chart Type category, click Column.
  4. Under Chart Sub-type, click either the third or fifth, and then click Next.
  5. In step 2, under Series In, click Rows, and then click Next.
  6. In step 3, clear the Show Legend check box. Click Finish.

In Microsoft Excel Versions 5.0 and 7.0

  1. Enter the following in a spreadsheet:

    A1: Data
    A2: 100
    A3: 300
    A4: 650
    A5: 425
    A6: 175

  2. Select cells A1:A6. On the Insert menu, point to Chart, and then click On This Sheet or As New Sheet. Click Next.
  3. Click Column in the "Select a chart type" dialog box, and then click Next.
  4. Click either view 3 or 5 in the "Select a format for the Column chart" dialog box, and then click Next.
  5. In the Sample Chart box, under "Data Series in," click Rows and then click Next.
  6. Click No under "Add a Legend?" and click Finish.

In Microsoft Excel Versions 4.0 and Earlier

  1. Enter the following in a spreadsheet:

    A1: Data
    A2: 100
    A3: 300
    A4: 650
    A5: 425
    A6: 175

  2. Select the cells that contain the data points.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. On the File menu, click New, and then click Chart.
  5. In the Chart window, click Paste Special on the Edit menu.
  6. Click Rows under Values In.
  7. Click OK.
  8. For a stacked Column chart, click Column on the Gallery menu. For a stacked Bar chart, click Bar on the Gallery menu.
  9. Click on chart type 3 or 5, depending on the column or bar chart type you want.
