OFF95: Error Loading Visual Basic for Application Help File (150713)

SYMPTOMS

When you are in a Microsoft Excel module sheet, and you try to access the Help file, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Cannot find the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
shared\vba\vbaen.hlp help file. Do you want to try to find
this file yourself?

-or-

Cannot find the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
shared\vba\vbaen.hlp file. Check to see that the file exists on
your disk. If it doesn't, you need to reinstall it.

CAUSE

This problem may occur because the Help file is not installed with the typical installation choice.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, run Setup in maintenance mode in order to install the Help file. To do this, use the following steps:

  1. If you originally installed Microsoft Office from a compact disc, insert the Office compact disc in the CD-ROM drive.

    -or-

    If you originally installed Office from disks, insert the first Setup disk (Disk 1) in drive A or B as appropriate.

    -or-

    If you originally installed Microsoft Office from a network, connect to the network location using the same drive letter.
  2. In Windows 95, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.
  5. If you see the Office applications listed in the dialog box, click the Add/Remove button.

    -or-

    If you don't see the Office applications listed in the dialog box, click the Install button.
  6. Click the Add/Remove button on the "Welcome to the Microsoft Office 95 Installation Maintenance Program" dialog box.
  7. Click Microsoft Excel (leave the check box selected), and click the Change Option button.
  8. Click Online Help And Sample Files, and click the Change Option button.
  9. Click the "Online Help for Visual Basic" check box and click OK twice to get back to the Microsoft Office 95--Maintenance screen. Then, click Continue.
