This article lists error messages you may see during Works for Windows 95 Setup. These errors can be caused by a corrupted or damaged Setup.stf file. To correct these problems follow the steps in the "Remove the Setup.stf File and Reinstall" section later in this article.

ERROR MESSAGES

Setup Error 544

Setup is unable to open the data file 'C:\PROGRAM FILES\MSWORKS\SETUP4x\SETUP.stf'; run Setup again from where you originally ran it.

Setup Error 723

The processing of top-level information has failed.

Setup Error 258, 937, 938, 939, 940, 941, 942, 945

Your Setup files may be damaged. Try restarting the Setup program.

Setup Error 945

ObjID Object
Your Setup files may be damaged. Try restarting the setup program.

Setup Error 608

The Setup program has become corrupted. Run Setup again from where you originally ran it.
NOTE: The Setup.stf file is deleted after receiving this error.

Setup Message

Setup does not support being run in this mode.

Any of the errors above can be caused by a corrupted or missing Setup.stf file. Remove the Setup.stf file and reinstall Works from the original installation Compact Disk or floppy disk to correct the problem.

Remove the Setup.stf File and Reinstall

To remove the Setup.stf file and reinstall Works, do the following:

  1. Close any open programs.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  3. Open the Msworks\Setup4x folder.
  4. Right-click Setup.stf.
  5. Click Delete, and then click Yes.
  6. Close Windows Explorer.
  7. Run Works Setup from the original disks.
