Works: Fill Series Autofill Does Not Increment Beyond 32767 (150450)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 6
  • Microsoft Works 2000
  • Microsoft Works 4.5
  • Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0

This article was previously published under Q150450

SYMPTOMS

In a Microsoft Works spreadsheet, if you use the Autofill option of Fill Series on the Edit menu with an entry that begins with a letter and ends with a number (such as J133, J134, J135), Works will not Autofill beyond the number 32767.

If you try to use Autofill to fill a series beyond 32767, you will either receive an ERR in the cell, or it is treated as a plain fill rather than a series fill. This only occurs if the cell entry begins with text and ends with a number.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

To work around this issue, do not use an entry composed of mixed text and numbers.

For example, if the series mentioned in the Summary is in Row 1 on the Spreadsheet, enter a J in cell A1 and Fill Down, then Autofill the series 133, 134, 135.
