SUMMARY

The shared components that ship with the versions of Microsoft Works listed at the beginning of this article include registration (.reg) files which are not needed to register or re-register any of the shared Works components such as Word Art or Draw.

If you merge these files into the Windows Registry by double-clicking them, the information in the .reg file will write incorrect information into the Registry, possibly producing error messages later when you run the shared component.

MORE INFORMATION

If you are experiencing error messages when you start any of the shared components, you may have incorrectly registered these shared components.

Examples of the error messages include:
Cannot Insert Object

-or-

Application Not Available
If this happens, the components can usually be re-registered correctly by double-clicking on the executable (.exe) file for the component.

For example, double-clicking on Msdraw.exe should correctly re-register Microsoft Draw. If this does not work, you need to run Works Maintenance Setup, remove the Accessories; and then run Setup again to add them.

Note-it is an exception to this method of re-registering shared applications. To repair a Note-it Registry problem, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
