Objects in Quattro Pro .WB1 Files Do Not Convert (150062)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q150062 SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0 and Microsoft Excel 97 for
Windows, contain a filter to open Quattro Pro for Windows, version 5.0
(WB1), files. However, objects such as drawing objects, OLE objects,
and most commonly, Chart objects, contained in the .WB1 file fail to be
converted and will not display.
NOTE: Files created in Quattro Pro for Windows, version 6.0, and saved
in the .WB1 format (instead of the Quattro Pro 6.0 file format of .WB2)
behave the same way.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the filter for .WB1 files does not support
the conversion of any objects. This behavior is by design of Microsoft
Excel.
RESOLUTION
You can convert the objects contained in .WB1 files by saving the file
as a different file type. To do this, use the following steps:
- Open the .WB1 files in Quattro Pro for Windows (version 5.0).
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the list of File Types, click either 1-2-3 v3.x (*.WK3)
or QP/DOS (*.WQ1).
- Change the file name and its location, if needed. Click OK.
- Open the file (*.WK3 or *.WQ1) in Microsoft Excel.
Note that the WQ1 file format is a single sheet format. If your
workbook contains multiple sheets, you will need to save each sheet
into its own WQ1 file.
MORE INFORMATION
The file filter for Quattro Pro for Windows files (.WB1) opens the
files read-only. The files open read-only because the filter allows
Microsoft Excel to read the file format, but does not allow Microsoft
Excel to save in that format (.WB1).
