Mac Encarta 96 Hangs or Quits When Choosing a Word Processor (150045)

When you are in the Preferences window and you press the Choose Word
Processor button, the program stops responding (hangs) or quits.
CAUSE
The most likely cause of this is a third-party extension that changes the
appearance of the windows on a Macintosh. One such extension that does this
is called "~Aaron."
RESOLUTION
To choose your Word Processor and still retain the customizations provided
by the extension, use the steps below. This example assumes the extension
in question is ~Aaron.
- Restart your computer
- Open your System Folder and then the Extensions folder.
- Find the ~Aaron extension and drag it to your desktop.
- Restart the computer and start Encarta 1996.
- On the File menu, click Preferences.
- In the Preference window, click Choose Word Processor. Select the word
processor you want to use.
- Close the window and quit Encarta 1996.
- Drag the ~Aaron extension back into the Extensions folder.
- Restart the computer.
