TMGR: No Message for Task Link Prior to Schedule's Start Date (149814)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q149814 SYMPTOMS
If two tasks are linked, and the successor has a negative delay that would
otherwise start the successor task before the schedule's start date, the
successor is scheduled no earlier than the schedule's start date. No
message appears stating that the task is starting at the schedule's start
date instead of earlier.
CAUSE
All task links are interpreted as "On or after," or "Start No Earlier
Than." The negative delay in the example above dictates that the successor
task starts no earlier than sometime before the predecessor task; however,
the schedule's start date supersedes the relationship to the predecessor.
NOTE: No task can be scheduled before the schedule's start date. Any change
to a task's constraint that would schedule that task earlier than the Plan
start date results in a prompt to change schedule's start date.
WORKAROUND
If a task must start before the current schedule's start date, you must
modify the schedule's start date. To do so, follow these steps: - On the Tools menu, click Options.
- In the Options dialog box, click the Calculation tab.
- Under Schedule Start Date, change the date to at least as early as the
earliest task in your schedule.
- Click OK.
