SUMMARY

If you create Binders in Microsoft Office, you may find it useful to know how to separate a Binder into individual component files.

MORE INFORMATION

There are currently two methods to separate a Binder into its component files.

Method 1: Unbind the File

After you perform the following steps, you will have a copy of each section in your Binder created in the same folder as the Binder file. Each file will have the same name as its respective section in the Binder. The Binder file remains intact, and is not affected by the unbinding process.

  1. On the Office Shortcut Bar, click the Open Office Document button (Open A Document button in version 7.0) and locate the Binder file that you want to unbind.
  2. In the Open dialog box, right-click the file, and then click Unbind.
NOTE: The Unbind command is not available if you are running Microsoft Office 7.0 under Microsoft Windows NT. However, the Unbind command is available in version 97 under Microsoft Windows NT.

Method 2: Save Each Section

These steps save the active section of the Binder in its respective document format (that is, as a Microsoft Excel, Word, or PowerPoint document). If you want to completely unbind the Binder, repeat these steps for each section in the Binder.

  1. Open the Binder.
  2. Select the section that you want to unbind.
  3. On the Section menu, click Save As File.
NOTE: This method is the only way you can unbind a Binder file if you are running Microsoft Office version 7.0 under Microsoft Windows NT.
