SUMMARY

When you set up a Professional Edition of Microsoft Office over an existing installation of the Standard Edition of Microsoft Office, some custom settings are reset to their defaults. This behavior is by design of the Microsoft Office Setup program.

Office Standard Custom Settings that Are Reset



  • "What's New" Screens: (Microsoft Office 7.0 ONLY)

    When you start an Office program a "What's New In..." screen appears.
  • Help Files:

    When you start Help in an Office program, a "Preparing Help File" message appears.
  • Getting Results: (Microsoft Office 7.0 ONLY)

    When you start Getting Results, a "Preparing Help File" message appears.
  • Find Index in Help:

    Setup does not maintain the index that you build when you run Help in an Office program and use the steps on the Find tab.
  • Default Office Shortcut Bar toolbars:

    Setup re-hides toolbars that are hidden by default. These toolbars include the Favorites, Desktop, MSN, Programs, and Accessories toolbars.
  • Toolbar background colors:

    Setup resets toolbar backgrounds to their default colors.
  • Default buttons:

    Setup re-hides Office toolbar buttons that are not displayed by default.
  • Position of the Office Shortcut Bar:

    The Office Shortcut Bar is restored to its default location in the upper-right corner of the screen.
