PUB: Windows Slows Down While Printing to HP DeskJet 820c (146434)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows 3.0
This article was previously published under Q146434 SYMPTOMS
When you print a document to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 820c, Windows
95 may run very slowly. This problem may occur even if you have a high-
speed computer with lots of memory. In some cases, you are able to easily
type ahead of your computer (the letters won't appear until well after
you've typed them) and it takes a long time to move from field to field in a
dialog box (when you press the TAB key), and it takes much longer than normal to
start and close applications and documents.
CAUSE
The DeskJet 820c relies entirely on the microprocessor in your computer
to process your print job; it has only very simple electronics built
into it. This means that if you have a fast computer, it will print
faster than other models of DeskJet. However, it also means that while
you are printing to this printer, your computer can do little else.
STATUS
Hewlett-Packard has confirmed this to be a problem with the HP Printing
System for Windows (DeskJet 820C Series Printer). Performance issues will
be addressed in later versions of the printer driver.
