SUMMARY

When you install Publisher for Windows 95, the Setup program asks you if you want to install two printer drivers to use with the Outside Printer Setup Wizard. If you choose not to install these drivers, you can install them yourself later.

Publisher for Windows 95 Help contains steps to install the outside printer drivers. To locate these steps:
  1. On the Help menu, click Show Index.
  2. In the "Type A Key Word" box, type:

    printer drivers

  3. In the "Click The Entry You Want" box, select the "Installing Outside Drivers" topic.
  4. In the What Do You Want To Install box (which is located to the right of the "Click The Entry You Want" box), click the topic appropriate for your version of Windows.
NOTE: These procedures may require your Windows 95 or Windows NT disks or compact disc.

The following information is the text from Publisher Help:

If You Are Running Publisher Under Windows 95

  1. On the taskbar, click the Start button and point to Settings.
  2. Click Printers.
  3. Double-click the Add Printer icon, and then click Next.
  4. Click Local Printer, and then click Next.
  5. Under Manufacturers, if MS Publisher for Windows 95 appears in the list, click it.

    -or-

    If MS Publisher for Windows 95 does not appear in the list, click Have Disk. Then, in the Install From Disk dialog box, type

    c:\windows\system

    and click OK. If your Windows system files are located in a different directory, type its name instead.
  6. Under Printers, click MS Publisher Imagesetter, and then click Next.
  7. If the Add Printer Wizard tells you that a driver is already installed for that printer and asks you which one you want to use, click Keep Existing Driver, and then click Next.
  8. In the Available Ports box, click FILE, and then click Next.
  9. Leave the text in the Printer Name box unchanged, and click No under the Use This Printer As The Default Printer option.
  10. Click Next, and then click No under Printing A Test Page.
  11. Click Finish.

    If necessary, Windows 95 asks you to insert one of its setup disks.
  12. To install Publisher's other printer driver, repeat steps 1 through 11, but this time, in step 6, click MS Publisher Color Printer.
  13. On the File menu, click Outside Print Setup, and set up your outside printer.

If you are running Publisher under Windows NT 4.0

  1. On the taskbar, click the Start button and point to Settings.
  2. Click Printers.
  3. Double-click the Add Printer icon, and then click Next.
  4. Click My Computer, and then click Next.
  5. Under available ports, place a check next to FILE: and click next.
  6. Under Manufacturers, if MS Publisher for Windows 95 appears in the list, click it.

    -or-

    If MS Publisher for Windows 95 does not appear in the list, click Have Disk. Then, in the Install From Disk dialog box, type

    c:\winNT\system32\mspub.inf

    and click OK. If your Windows NT system files are located in a different directory, type its name instead.
  7. Under Printers, click MS Publisher Imagesetter, and then click Next.
  8. If the Add Printer Wizard tells you that a driver is already installed for that printer and asks you which one you want to use, click Keep Existing Driver, and then click Next.
  9. Leave the text in the Printer Name box unchanged, and click No under the Use This Printer As The Default Printer option.
  10. Click Next, and then click No under Printing A Test Page.
  11. Click Finish.

    If necessary, Windows NT asks you to insert one of its setup disks.

If you are running Publisher under Windows NT 3.51

  1. In the Control Panel, double-click Printers.
  2. On the Printer menu, click Create Printer.
  3. Under Printer Name, type:

    MS Publisher Imagesetter

  4. Under Driver, click Other at the bottom of the list.
  5. In the Install Driver dialog box, type:

    c:\mspub

    If Publisher's program files are located in a different directory, type its name instead.
  6. Click OK.
  7. In the Windows NT Setup dialog box, if necessary, type a new path.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. In the Create Printer dialog box, under Print To, click FILE.
  10. Click OK.
  11. In the PostScript Printer Setup dialog box, change any options you want.
  12. Click OK.
  13. To install Publisher's other printer driver, repeat steps 1 through 12, but this time, in step 3, type

    MS Publisher Color Printer

    and in step 7, click MS Publisher Color Printer.
