Works 95 Error: "No Default Printer Selected" (145750)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open, print, or preview a document in Works 4.0, 4.5 or 4.5a, you receive one of the following error messages if your printer resolution is set above 1400 dpi (dots-per-inch):
No default printer selected.

Use the Windows Control Panel to specify your printer.

-or-

The printer driver is missing or not valid.

Run the Windows Setup program to install the printer software again.
NOTE: You may also receive these error messages if you do not have a default printer set in Windows 95.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, use a lower print resolution setting. To change to setting in Windows 95, do the following:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. With your right mouse button, click the default printer, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Graphics tab.
  4. Change the Resolution setting to a resolution less than 1400 dpi.
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
Your Works document should now open, preview, and print without error messages.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Works cannot use the font metrics for printer drivers that are set to resolutions above 1400 dpi.
