When you copy a Word template from Microsoft Word for Windows to Word for
the Macintosh, Word for the Macintosh does not show macros, text, styles,
or AutoText entries that are part of the Word for Windows template.
CAUSE
Word for the Macintosh cannot directly use a template from Word for
Windows. You must save the template in the Word for Macintosh format first.
RESOLUTION- Save or copy the Word for Windows template to an MS-DOS formatted disk.
- Insert the disk into the Macintosh. PC Exchange (or Apple File
Exchange) must be installed on the Macintosh in order for the MS-DOS
formatted disk to be available on the Macintosh. If the Macintosh
wants to format the disk, click No and eject the disk. To install PC
Exchange (or Apple File Exchange), please contact Apple Technical
Support.
- Move the Word for Windows template from the PC Icon folder to the
Macintosh desktop.
- Rename the Word for Windows template to the same name, minus the period
and file name extension. (for example, rename Normal.dot to Normal).
- Start Word for the Macintosh.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- Under Select A Document, click Desktop in the drop-down list.
- Click to select the renamed Word for Windows template and click Open.
- On the File menu, click Save.
- Close the template.
- Quit Word.
- Move the saved template from the Macintosh desktop to the Word
templates folder. If the message "An item <template name> already
exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're
moving?" appears, click OK.
- Restart Word for the Macintosh. Word should now be able to use the new
template. Any boilerplate text, macros, styles, AutoText entries, and
so on from the Word for Windows template should now be available in a
new Word for Macintosh document based on that template.
