Copy and Paste

  1. Open the file you want to convert.
  2. If the file is a Spreadsheet, click cell A1. If the file is a Database, click in the first field of the first record in List view.
  3. Press CTRL+SHIFT+END to select all cells.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  5. On the File menu, click New. In Works versions 2.0 and 3.0 click Create New File.
  6. Create a new Spreadsheet or Database. If you create a Spreadsheet, skip step 7.
  7. To create a new Database in Works 4.0, 4.0a 4.5 or 4.5a, click Add To A Field, and then click Done. In Works 2.0 or 3.0, click List on the View menu.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Paste. In a Works 4.0, 4.0a 4.5 or 4.5a database click Yes to let Works add extra fields.
NOTE: Formulas will not be copied, only the values that are the results of formulas. You must clear the field and re-enter any formulas.

Save the File As Text

  1. Open the file you want to convert.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. Enter new file name and add the extension .txt. For example, you could name the file Customers.txt.
  4. In Save As Type, click Text & Tabs, and then click OK.

    In Works 2.0 and 3.0, this section is called Save File As Type.

    NOTE: Saving a file as Text will remove any formulas or applied formatting.
  5. On the File menu, click Open. In Works 2.0 and 3.0, click Open Existing File.
  6. In Files Of Type, click Text. In Works 2.0 and 3.0 click List Files Of Type.
  7. Select the previously saved file and click Open or OK.
  8. Click Text For Windows, then click the button for the type of file you want to open it as.

    NOTE: Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a will open a text file as a database in Form view. Works 2.0 and 3.0 will open a text file as a database in List view.
