In Microsoft Word, COMMAND+B, COMMAND+I, and COMMAND+U may not function as
expected in the Find and Replace dialog boxes. These key commands function
as follows:
- COMMAND+B does nothing.
- COMMAND+I toggles Use Pattern Matching (Word 6) or selects the Replace
With box (Word 98).
- COMMAND+U does nothing (Word 6) or toggles Use Wildcards (Word 98).
WORKAROUND
Use one of the following methods to find and replace bold, italics, or
underline formatting.
Method 1: Use the Format Button
Use the Format button in the Find or Replace dialog box. To do this, follow
these steps:
- On the Edit menu, click Find (or Replace).
- Delete any text from the Find What box (and Replace With box).
- Click once in the Find What box.
- Click Format, and then click Font.
- Select the formats you want to find, for example, underline or font
style, and then click OK.
- If you are replacing the formats, click once in the Replace With box.
- Click Format, and then click Font.
- Select the formats you want to apply, and then click OK.
- Click the Find Next, Replace, or Replace All button.
Method 2: Use the Formatting Toolbar Buttons
Use the Formatting toolbar buttons in the Find or Replace dialog box. To do
this, follow these steps:
- On the Edit menu, click Find (or Replace).
- Delete any text from the Find What box (and Replace With box).
- Click once in the Find What box.
- Click the Bold, Italics, or Underline button on the Formatting toolbar
to turn these formatting choices on and off. For example, when you first
click Bold, Bold is active. When you click Bold again, Not Bold is
active. When you click the Bold button a third time, neither is active.
- If you are replacing the formats, click once in the Replace With box.
- Repeat step 4 to select the format you want to apply.
- Click the Find Next, Replace, or Replace All button.
