File Name Changes After Selecting Folder in Save As Dialog Box (142809)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office for Windows 95
- Microsoft Word for Windows 95
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
- Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q142809 SYMPTOMS
In any of the products listed at the beginning of this article, when you
type a file name for your document in the Save As dialog box, if you then
select a different folder in the Save As dialog box, the file name reverts
to the default name specified by one of the above programs. Because
PowerPoint leaves the File Name box blank by default, the file name is
deleted if you change folders after you type the file name of your
presentation.
This behavior occurs in the following situations:
- This is the first time you save your file, you change the file name,
and you then select a different folder.
-or-
- You originally saved your document using the default file name
provided by the program, and then you choose Save As, change the
file name, and then change the folder.
WORKAROUND
To workaround this problem, select your folder before you type the file
name.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the
beginning of this article. Microsoft is researching this problem and will
post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
