PUB: Gradient Fills in Ellipses Don't Match Border (142442)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher for Windows 3.0

This article was previously published under Q142442

SYMPTOMS

If you fill an ellipse or circle with a gradient and use a narrow border, there will be a gap between the right edge of the gradient and the border.

Note, the gap appears in the displayed version of the publication only; the ellipse or circle should be printed correctly.

CAUSE

When Publisher displays a gradient-filled ellipse, the gradient is given the same shape and size as the border, but it is displayed up and to the left by one screen pixel.

This effect only occurs when the border of the ellipse is displayed one pixel-width wide. If the border is thicker, the effect is not noticeable.

RESOLUTION

IMPORTANT: You can make this effect go away, but the ellipse may not be printed correctly.

To display the ellipse properly, use the following steps:
  1. Select the ellipse.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
  4. In the list of data types, select Picture.
The ellipse will now be displayed correctly, but it may not be printed as well as before you performed the steps.
