Works 3.0: Cannot Send a Fax in Windows 95 Using Exchange (142352)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 3.0
- Microsoft Works 3.0a
- Microsoft Works 3.0b
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q142352 SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to send a Works for Windows 3.0 document using the Windows
95 Fax client, you receive the following error message:
Printer driver file not found or not valid
You receive this error message if you attempt to send a fax using any of
the following methods:
- If you embed the Works document in a mail or fax message in Exchange.
- If you click Fax Recipient on the Send To command in Windows Explorer.
The Send To command is located on the File menu, or by clicking the
right mouse button on the file you want to fax.
- If you have the file open in Works and click Send on the File menu.
CAUSE
The faxing client in Windows 95 requires programs that can be launched in
multiple instances (meaning that you can have more than one copy of the
program running at the same time). Because Works 3.0 is a single instance
program, you will not be able to use the Send command in Works if you are
running Windows 95.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the Print command on the File menu within
Works to fax if you are using Works 3.0 and the Windows 95 Faxing client.
MORE INFORMATION
The error message described above does not occur in Works 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5,
4.5a for Windows 95, or if you are using Works for Windows 3.0 under
Windows 3.1.
