PRJ41: "Workgroup Messaging Not Installed" If E-mail Running (139946)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1

This article was previously published under Q139946

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Workgroup Message Handler, if you attempt to open a TeamAssign message, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Project 4.1 workgroup messaging is not installed properly on this machine. Please contact the originator of this message for instructions on installing the Workgroup Message Handler.

CAUSE

The message is a warning that the Workgroup Message Handler is not yet configured correctly. If the e-mail program was running while Wgsetup was installing the Workgroup Message Handler, the settings will not take effect until the e-mail program is restarted. Wgsetup.exe does not warn you that an e-mail program is running and that it should be terminated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, close and restart your e-mail program. Once you do this, you will be able to open a workgroup mail message without error.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

The Workgroup Message Handler Setup for Windows 3.x (Wfwsetup.exe) correctly warns you if an e-mail program is running and that it should be terminated.
