Read-Only Recommended File Displays "Read-Only" Message (139078)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
- Microsoft Project for the Macintosh 4.0
This article was previously published under Q139078 SYMPTOMS
Opening a Microsoft Project version 3.0 read-only recommended file in
Microsoft Project version 4.0 will result in the following message:
<filename> should be opened read-only unless changes to it must be saved. Open as read-only?
This message is continuously displayed, even if you click Yes. If you click
No, the file is opened with read-only permissions.
WORKAROUND
When you open a read-only recommended file in Microsoft Project version
4.0, do the following:
- When you are prompted to open the file as read-only, click No.
This will successfully open the file, though in a read-only
state. - On the File menu, click Save As.
- Type in a new name for the File. Click Save.
This will create an exact duplicate of the original file. The read-only
recommendation will behave correctly with the new file.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
