The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows 4.0
  • Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1
  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh 4.0

This article was previously published under Q138565

SYMPTOMS

A task's duration may change incorrectly when the task's meets the following criteria:

  • The resource assigned to the task has a calendar different from the Project Base Calendar.

    -and-

  • The task has a finish-to-finish relationship with another task.

CAUSE

The early start date for a task is calculated incorrectly when the task has a finish-to-finish predecessor and a resource assigned whose hours do not match the project calendar.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the following steps:

  1. Select the finish date of the predecessor task.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  3. Select the finish date of the successor task.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special, and click Paste Link.
  5. Select Text Data and click OK.
This creates an OLE link between the task's finish dates, establishing a finish-to-finish dependency which forces the start date to be moved. However, this OLE link will not be displayed with a link line on the Gantt Chart.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
