If you install Works 4.0 or 4.5 to a folder on a server not running
Windows 95, you may receive the following error message:
The specified volume does not support long file names. You must select
a destination that supports long file names, or force the use of short
file names. To force the short file names, exit now and restart Setup
using the /F command line option.
RESOLUTION
Configure Works to force the use of short file names. To force the use of
short file names do the following:
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type the following and then click OK
for example
where the server is mapped to drive E and the setup files are on the

MORE INFORMATION
On a network, it is common for a file server to have space available to
each user. This shared space can be used to install programs such as Works.
The server does not have to be running Windows 95, but you may receive the
error message listed at the top of this article if the server isn't running
Windows 95.
Long file names are supported by Novell NetWare servers if the server is configured to use a Novell utility called the OS/2 name space. For additional information on using this utility, see your Novell documentation.
NOTE: It is not necessary to use the /F switch for administrative
installations of Works on servers that do not support long file names. The
administrative installation will not create directories with long filenames; only the workstation installation requires support for long file
names.
