Office: Add/Remove Fails Due to Invalid Path (138382)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q138382 SYMPTOMS
When you run Microsoft Office Setup in maintenance mode to add or remove
components, if the original path to the source files is no longer valid,
you receive one of the following error messages:
Setup cannot find the files on <path> from which you originally
installed the product. If this is a network server, make sure that
the server is still available.
Setup cannot find the files on <path> from which you originally
installed the product.
To add/remove programs or options, run the Setup program from the CD
or floppy Disk 1. If you installed from a network location, run Setup
from the network location that currently contains the Setup program.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the appropriate method below to run the
Setup program from the original source files.
If You Installed Office from Disks
If you changed your computer's configuration after you ran Setup, for
example if you changed the 3.5-inch disk drive from A to B, insert 3.5-
inch Microsoft Office 95 Setup Disk 1 in the new drive (drive B in this
example) and run Setup from that drive instead of from the hard disk.
If You Installed from CD-ROM
If you changed your computer's configuration after you ran Setup, for
example if you changed the CD-ROM from D to E, insert the Microsoft
Office 7.0 CD-ROM in the new drive (in this example drive E), and run
Setup from the new drive instead of from your hard disk.
If You Installed from a Network
If the network drive that contained Microsoft Office is no longer a
mapped drive, re-establish the mapped drive connection and rerun Setup
from the hard disk. For example, if Setup was originally run from the
mapped drive F and the network installation of Microsoft Office is now on
mapped drive G, run Setup from mapped drive G instead of from the hard
disk.
