PUB: Text in Metafile Doesn't Rotate in Publisher (138360)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows 3.0
This article was previously published under Q138360 SYMPTOMS
When you rotate certain metafiles that contain both graphics and text, you
may find that the graphics rotate fine but the text portions remain in
their original orientation.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the text portions of the metafile use a font that
is not a TrueType font.
RESOLUTION
To successfully rotate both the graphics and the text, you must make sure
that only TrueType fonts are in the graphic. You can do this by using only
TrueType fonts when creating the metafile or, if you are using a "premade"
metafile, by making sure that your font substitutes are all TrueTypes. To
do the latter, follow these steps:
- Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type "win.ini" (without the quotation marks)
and then click OK. This will bring up the Win.ini file in Notepad.
- On the Search menu, click Find.
- In the Find What box, type "[fontsub" (without the quotation marks) and
click the Find Next button. This brings up your font substitutes
section, which will look something like this:
[FontSubstitutes]
Helv=MS Sans Serif
Tms Rmn=MS Serif
Times=Times New Roman
Helvetica=Arial
MT Symbol=Symbol
- Change each entry to the right of the equal sign to be TrueType fonts.
Recommended fonts are:
[FontSubstitutes]
Helv=Arial
Tms Rmn=Times New Roman
Times=Times New Roman
Helvetica=Arial
MT Symbol=Symbol
- On the File menu, click Save. Quit Notepad.
- Restart Windows for your changes to take effect.
