Works: No Pagination Available Without a Default Printer Selected (138329)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 2.x
- Microsoft Works 3.x
- Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0
This article was previously published under Q138329 SUMMARY
In the Word Processor in Works, if you want to display the page number in
the lower-left corner of your document, you need to have a default
printer setting on your computer. Additionally, you need a default printer
setting on your system if you want to print, to print preview a document,
or to use the Paginate Now command on the Tools menu (or, in Works 2.x, on
the Options menu). You are unable to perform these tasks in Works until you
specify a default printer setting in the Control Panel in Windows.
MORE INFORMATION
Works behaves this way because it needs the printer information, paper
size, and orientation to calculate how the page will look when it is
printed. These settings, combined with the margin settings in Works,
determine how much information can fit on a page. Only then can Works
calculate a page number.
Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a inform you if you don't have a default printer
selected at the time you start the program. For Works 3.x and 2.x, the
quickest way to check if there is a default printer is to try a print
preview. If there is no default printer set, a dialog box appears to inform
you of this fact.
For more information about how to select a default printer in Windows, see
your Windows printed documentation or online Help.
