Works: Inserted Document Name Does Not Wrap Correctly (138005)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0

This article was previously published under Q138005

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a document name using the Insert menu command, the file name does not wrap correctly to the next line.

This occurs with printed documents, or when you view documents in Print Preview. The problem is is especially apparent when a very long file name is inserted near the end of a line of text.

CAUSE

Works treats inserted file names as one object, so it does not wrap them to the next line, even if the document name contains several words and spaces.

RESOLUTION

You can have the document's file name text wrap if you insert it as text, rather than from the Insert menu. To insert the file name as text, do the following:

  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. When the Save As dialog box appears, copy the file name by pressing down and holding the CTRL key, while you press the C key.
  3. Click Cancel.
  4. Click your mouse where you want the file name to appear.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
NOTE: Inserting the file name in this fashion will not automatically update the file name in the document if you later save the document with a new name.
