This article was previously published under Q137715 SYMPTOMS
Labels you created using the preset Avery label sizes in Works for Windows
3.0 default to Custom Label Size when you convert them to Works 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5, or 4.5a. The converted labels should print and preview correctly without any changes. However, any lines on the original labels that printed out to the last 1/8-inch of the label may wrap to the next line when converted to Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a.
CAUSE
The label defaults to Custom Label Size because Works 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5, or 4.5a has different label sizes available than Works 3.0. Each version has its own map pointing to particular Avery labels. Because these maps are not
identical, Works 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5, or 4.5a simply changes the label to Custom.
Extremely long lines may wrap incorrectly because of a change in the label
left margin setting. The setting is changed from the Works 3.0 default of
.125" (1/8") to .25" in Works 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5, or 4.5a, to keep the labels from printing on the left perforation. This is the only setting that is changed in the conversion of labels documents.
RESOLUTION
If long lines on the labels are wrapping to the next line when you print,
complete the following steps from your labels document in Works 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5, or 4.5a to reduce the label left margin setting:
- On the Tools menu, click Labels.
- Click the Labels button.
- Click the Label Size tab.
- Click Custom, and then click the Label Size tab.
- In the Margins box, reduce the Left setting. For
example, if the Left setting is .25", change it to .12", and then
click Done.
MORE INFORMATION
You can select the appropriate Avery style again, though this is
unnecessary.
