Access Links Add-in Seems to Hang in Transition to Access (137620)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Access for Windows 95 7.0

This article was previously published under Q137620

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you use the Access Links add-in, your computer may appear to stop responding (hang) when the add-in switches from Microsoft Excel to Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0.

MORE INFORMATION

The Access Links add-in installs the Access Form, Access Report, and Convert To Access commands to the Data menu in Microsoft Excel version 7.0. When you choose one of these commands, the add-in starts Microsoft Access, then calls the appropriate wizard in Microsoft Access to complete the chosen task. During this transition to Microsoft Access, the insertion point is set to normal pointer mode. The transition to Microsoft Access and the performance of the Microsoft Access wizards is extremely slow. Because no message box appears, and because the insertion point is not set to a wait condition or changed to an hourglass, the computer may appear to hang. It may take several seconds for the wizard to be initialized and for the task to be completed.
