SUMMARY

SYMPTOMS

You do not see the long document name of a WordPerfect 5.x file in the Word 6.0 and Word 98 Find File search results dialog box. In Word for Windows versions 7.0 and later, the Find File functionality has been added to the Open dialog box. However, when you click Properties in the Open dialog box for the particular file, the summary information from the Word Perfect document is not available. In contrast, in Word version 2.0, the long document name is displayed in the Title line. (To locate this option, in the Word 2.0 search results dialog box, click Summary from the View list.)

CAUSE

The Find File feature of Word versions 6.0 and later do not recognize the document format. Word versions 6.0 and later do not automatically convert files from different formats to display summary information. In contrast, Word 2.0 does convert foreign formatted files to display the summary information.

WORKAROUND

To view the long document name of the WordPerfect document, first convert the file to Word format. Once you have saved the document in the Word format, the long document name of the Word Perfect document will be available in the Properties dialog box, in the Find File results window (Word 6.0 and Word 98), and in the Open dialog box (Word for Windows 7.0 and later) when you click Properties.

MORE INFORMATION
