PRJ: Answer Wizard Selects Wrong Menu Item (137541)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
- Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1
This article was previously published under Q137541 SYMPTOMS
The Answer Wizard displays an incorrect menu item or performs an incorrect
menu item selection.
CAUSE
The Answer Wizard provides an automated response to an English-based
question. In many cases, the Answer Wizard will step you through the menu
items by automatically selecting the menu commands necessary to achieve the
desired goal. This process of automatically stepping through the menu
selection is called "ghosting."
If the standard menu bar has been modified, the normal ghosting sequence is
interrupted and an incorrect selection is displayed by the Answer Wizard.
If you add, remove or reorder items within the Standard menu, the ghosting
sequence may select an incorrect response. Resetting the Standard menu
will not re-establish the correct ghosting steps.
WORKAROUND
The only way to reestablish the correct ghosting sequence is to use the
original Standard Menu from the original GLOBAL.MPT file. There is a backup
of this file that must be used in the following way:
NOTE: Before this procedure can be done, you must save all of your currently open projects, and Exit Microsoft Project.
- In File Manager, find the GLOBAL.MPT file. On the
File menu, click Search.
- Search for "GLOBAL.MPT" on the root directory of the drive to which
Microsoft Project is installed.
- Click OK.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each drive, until GLOBAL.MPT is found.
NOTE: If Microsoft Project is installed to be shared over a
network, contact your network administrator. - Click the GLOBAL.MPT file. On the File menu, click
Rename.
- Rename the file GLOBAL.BAK and click
OK.
NOTE: If "GLOBAL.BAK" already exists, do not replace the file.
Simply type a different filename instead of "GLOBAL.BAK." - Repeat steps 1 and 2 searching for the "BACKUP.MPT" file.
- On the File menu, click Copy. Copy to the file
GLOBAL.MPT file, and then click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
