WordArt: Rotation Direction Reversed for Arc Shapes (137417)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft WordArt for Windows 95 3.0
  • Microsoft WordArt 2.0

This article was previously published under Q137417

SYMPTOMS

If you click the Rotate button on the WordArt toolbar and increase the rotation angle, a WordArt object that uses an arc-based shape will rotate counter-clockwise, but a WordArt shape that doesn't use an arc-based shape will rotate clockwise.

The arc-based WordArt shapes are:
Arch Up (Curve) Arch Up (Pour)
Arch Down (Curve) Arch Down (Pour)
   Circle (Curve) Circle (Pour)
   Button (Curve) Button (Pour)

CAUSE

Depending on which shape your WordArt object uses, WordArt displays one of two different variations of the Rotation dialog box. The dialog box that WordArt uses for arc-based shapes has fields for rotation and arc angle. The dialog box that WordArt uses for other shapes has fields for rotation and slider. These two different dialog boxes have different functionality, and the direction of rotation is one of the differences.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
