PRJ4: "Rate Value Not Valid" Error Opening FoxPro Table (137254)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows 4.0
  • Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1
  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh 4.0

This article was previously published under Q137254

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you open a dBase type table such as a Microsoft FoxPro table file, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
ID 1 Column 6
Rate Value not valid

Choose Yes to continue messages, No to stop messages, Cancel to stop paste.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you import the resources from a dBase file that contains a Standard Rate or Overtime Rate with value of $1000/h or greater. The error message that you receive contains the ID of the resource with the rate greater than $999.99/h, and the column number of the column that contains the Standard Rate or Overtime Rate field. If you click Yes, No, or Cancel in the error message that appears, the resource that has the rate that is greater than $999.99/h is imported; however, the rate appears as $0.00/h.

This problem occurs whether you export the Microsoft dBase table from Microsoft FoxPro, Microsoft Excel, or from Microsoft Project. Note, however, that you can open the file without receiving an error message in either Microsoft FoxPro or Microsoft Excel and the rate appears correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
